School Safety

The goal of the School Safety Program is to protect and improve the environmental health and safety of primary and secondary school students and all the staff that work in the schools.

Sanitarians from the Environmental Health Division inspect all aspects of the school environment annually according to state regulations.  These new rules were written by the Ohio Department of Health in direct response to Jarod’s Law that was passed by the Ohio Assembly in 2007.

Annual inspections of all public and private schools include the school grounds and building exterior, playground area and equipment, indoor environment, athletic facilities, specialty classrooms, food service areas, waste disposal facilities and chemical management.
